As a part of the RID project titled “Centers of Scientific and Technological Excellence at the University of Zielona Gora,” the Institute of Automation, Electronics and Electrical Engineering has purchased an OMICRON model CMC 356 electric power protection automation tester. The CMC 356 is designed for testing protection, energy meters, measuring transducers and power quality analyzers. The test set includes utility software that allows testing of all generations and types of security with built-in modules. The tester will enable us to perform with very high accuracy comprehensive and automated tests and measurements used in electric power systems and automation. With available application- and library-optimized test modules, flexible combinations in planned tests will be possible, providing automation that will significantly save measurement time.
In addition, the solution provides the opportunity to expand and achieve additional functionalities related to, for example, power grid simulation or the development of own operational programs. All of the test modules available on the device allow automatic reporting and adaptation of reports to individual test needs.
The CMC 356 is used for testing protection, energy meters, measuring transducers and power quality analyzers. The test set includes Test Universe utility software, which, with its built-in modules, allows testing of all generations and types of security features. In the test system, tasks are separated and performed between the device and the software. The Test Universe program controls test signals, processes measurement data, generates input data and creates reports. The tester, on the other hand, creates test signals (current, voltage, binary), measures the response of the test object, and applies a supply voltage to the test object. The tool, designed in this way, makes it possible to perform comprehensive and automated tests and measurements with very high accuracy (less than 0.02%). With available application-optimized test modules and libraries of security test templates, flexible combinations in test plans are possible to ensure automation, which in turn significantly saves time for measurement.
In addition, the solution also offers the possibility of future expansion with additional modules to achieve additional functionalities related to, for example, integration and simulation of the power grid, development of custom operating programs, or ready-made advanced modules, for example, for SCADA testing in accordance with IEC 61850 using GOOSE high-speed communication and Sampled Values.
All test modules of Test Universe software allow automatic reporting, at the same time these reports can be modified to match the needs of the test. The CMC test set is controlled via wired Ethernet, USB or Wi-Fi 2.
The investment was carried out as part of Task 1 of the Center for Electrical Power Systems and Robotic Automation Systems. Financed by the Ministry of Science within the “Regional Excellence Initiative” Program No. RID/SP/0050/2024/1.
